Tickle Me Elmo
The innocent request of a Tickle Me Elmo from a child was
like a kiss of death during the mid-90s holiday season. In
1996, Elmo Mania pushed the price of the popular Sesame
Street character as high as $1,500 a doll by private
sellers. In one case, Robert Waller, a clerk at a New
Brunswick, Canada Walmart was trampled by a crowd of 300
Elmo-crazed lunatics. In all, he suffered a torn hamstring,
concussion, hurt back, injured jaw, banged-up knee, one broken rib
and a partridge in a pear tree.
