NERF Balls
In 1970, the first four-inch NERF (Non-Expanding
Recreational Foam) ball was released and marketed as
"The World's First Indoor Ball". More than 4 million
NERF balls were sold in the first year alone. In 1972,
the NERF football hit the market and became the favorite
chew toy of neighborhood dogs across the county. And it's
fair to imagine that a good many NERF balls were
responsible for the collapse of the family Christmas tree
as well. So much for a 'harmless' Christmas toy.
