Slot Cars
Introduced in 1912 by Lionel, slot cars are one of the
most collectible vintage toys today. They became standard
issue Christmas toys when the variable speed slot cars
like we know today became popular in the 60s as Scalectrics
and Aurora sped them into the throttle-eager hands of children
everywhere. Eventually, Aurora’s Thunderjet and AFX models
dominated the slot car market and Christmas toy wishlists.
Today, the phenomenon is kept alive by middle-agers with
impressive spousal negotiating skills.
