Easy Bake Oven
This popular toy hit the market in 1963. Kenner inventor
Ronald Howes was inspired to create the Easy Bake Oven
after learning how street vendors roasted chestnuts for
Christmas shoppers. Powered by a 100-watt lightbulb, these
toy ovens proved to be relatively safe for children to
bake their own creations by using Easy Bake Oven packaged
food mixes. But almost a million units (built between 2006
and 2007) were recalled after 249 reports were filed about
children getting their hands caught in the toy.
